You don’t always need to go out canvassing to find extra work. As a window cleaner you likely already have a wide customer base. From these very same customers you can create a supplementary, yet lucrative income stream by offering ‘add-on serivces’.
Price well for these services and you could be sitting on a hidden gold mine.
Here are some ideas of some add-on services which you could propose to your customers:
- exterior cleaning of fascia boards, window frames, shutters etc.
- gutter clearing and cleaning
- drive/patio cleaning
- conservatory roof cleaning
- cleaning of shop awnings, garden gazeboes etc.
- exterior of caravans and mobile homes
- for commercial work, cleaning of cladding, signs etc.
- window film and tinting application
- glass restoration and scratch repair
- clean glass technology treatment
Set time aside for these jobs in such a way that it does not interfere with your regular work. Concentrate on one area at a time to group the jobs together.
Most people have an e-mail address by now, so why not take advantage of this free form of communication to promote your spring clean services to customers.
As you work your round ask your customers to provide you with their email address so that you can send them details of some promotional offers that you have planned. Reassure them that you will not share the e-mail address with anyone else and stick to this promise. If you are going to send a mass e-mail then use the mailing list feature on your web hosting account if you have one or use software designed for that purpose.
Don’t simply send an e-mail with multiple recipients otherwise you will share your customer’s email address with a bunch of strangers which they likely will not appreciate!
You could always send a personalized e-mail to individual customers which although is more time consuming, you will find that it is much more effective and a combination of the two should certainly do the trick. (This could involve a general promotional offer sent to all your customers and then a personalized reminder a few days later with specific jobs in mind sent to individually named customers. The more individual you make the follow up e-mail the better.)
